Cleanbake is a German brand that manufactures custom-made Couche Cloth that is reusable, environmentally friendly, cost-effective and non-stick.

Tell us about how and when your business came about.
Cleanbake was launched in Munich in 2008. Originally, the medical sector was the targeted business field with a special finish for fabric that destroys all bacteria being the basic idea. However, this finish was chemically different from the Cleanbake finish.
During a cosy evening in a pub, the topic was discussed in a small group where a baker was present. The baker was immediately hooked by the idea and wanted to have something similar to use as proofing cloth. And so, the idea for Cleanbake was born.
Extensive research and countless tests followed. After adapting the equipment for the food-related sector, we changed our focus to bakeries. In the beginning, the Cleanbake cloth was still manufactured in a sewing shop, but we soon realised that we had to take this into our own hands in order to be able to sample more quickly. So, in 2013, we moved Cleanbake to our own production facilities in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt. Today, we still produce all orders made to measure from there. Our core competencies include weaving, finishing and making up fabrics.
What do you hope to achieve from your products?
Cleanbake hopes to be a partner for every bakery. We manufacture exactly the product that our customer needs. We strongly believe that our cloth is the problem-solver in every bakery because of its special finish, which ensures that no dough sticks to the cloth. Because of this, there is no need for flouring and therefore no wastage. We also manufacture our cloth to keep its shape, so that it still fits perfectly even after washing. Plus, our cloth is washable and therefore reusable, making it not only a desirable piece of material for bakeries, but for the environment as well.
What is your most popular product?
We don’t have a single ‘most popular’ product per se. As we sew for small and big industrial bakeries, the demands are different and therefore the quantities are as well.
What is the greatest benefit bakers will have from using Cleanbake products?
Our cloth with the pearling effect is non-stick, cost-efficient and, above all, it is clean in the literal sense of the word. It is also ideal for use in an HACCP concept for the hygienic preparation of food.
All Cleanbake fabrics have an antimicrobial, bacteriostatic and non-stick effect. Therefore, not only do they stay clean for longer, the dough does not stick to them either.
Further advantages of our products include but are not limited to: inhibiting rot and mould growth; water and oil repellent with their pearling effect; depending on the type of dough, little to no flouring is required and therefore costs are reduced; cleanliness in the business is increased and the risk of employees contracting bakery asthma is also minimised by using Cleanbake. In addition, our cloths only require low washing temperatures.
What has been your most rewarding experience so far?
Our favourite and most rewarding experience is when a new customer contacts us to say how much they love our product.
Where do you see your business in ten years?
In ten years, we hope to have extended the business all over the world, with various suppliers just like Vanrooy. We hope that Cleanbake cloth will continue to be a ‘must have’ in bakeries around the globe.
