Second time’s the charm! 

We are very happy to have locked in a new date for the Michael James All Day Baking Demonstration, which was originally planned for August last year. 

The demonstration will take place in The Vanrooy Test Kitchen on Wednesday 9th of February from 1pm – 3pm. Michael himself will lead you through the steps and processes involved in creating some of the delicious recipes featured in All Day Baking, his most recent recipe book. 

Specifically, Michael will be demonstrating how to make the below products: 

  • Chicken, Sweet Corn and Basil Pie
  • Veggie Sausage Roll
  • Puff Pastry
  • Savoury ShortCrust Pastry

Michael James grew up in Penzance, West Cornwall. He moved to London at the age of 18 and worked at the five-star Selsdon Park Hotel before joining Tom Aikens at the two-Michelin star restaurant, Pied-à-Terre. It was here he met his Australian wife, Pippa. After moving to Sydney in 2004, he had the opportunity to work and learn with Dave McGuinness and Paul Allam at Bourke Street Bakery. This job was the start of his baking career, and he has never looked back. In 2013, Michael opened his own bakery and cafe, Tivoli Road Bakery, which offers a delicious and impressive range of sourdough breads, sweet and savoury pastries, granola, pies, sausage rolls and sandwiches.

All Day Baking is Michael’s second recipe book, following the release of The Tivoli Road Baker in 2018, which was written with the aim to inspire home-bakers to bake nourishing, real bread at home, and to give them the confidence to adapt it to suit their own taste preferences. Think olive loaf, fruit sourdough, spelt and honey loaf, wholegrain rye and buttermilk loaf, sprouted buckwheat loaf and more! 

We have also partnered with several incredible suppliers including Provenance Flour and Malt, Gippsland Jersey and Mont Rouge.

Provenance Flour and Malt will be sponsoring the flour for the day. Provenance Flour and Malt supply Single Origin/Single Varietal Flour and Malt that is traceable to the field of origin, and the farmer who grew it. Thus, it only seemed fitting for us to team up with them for this demonstration.

Gippsland Jersey will be sponsoring the butter for the day. Gippsland Jersey are known for doing things differently, sourcing milk from smaller, family farms with incredible dairy farmers paying farmers a fair price for what they produce. By sidestepping large milk processors and value-adding already premium jersey local milk, they ensure a healthy wage for farmers and a clear choice for consumers.

Mont Rouge will be sponsoring the wine for the afternoon. Mont Rouge is a family owned and run estate located on the Mornington Peninsula in Red Hill. The 9 acre property features 4 acres of vines as well as a delicious Chocolaterie.

The combination of incredible, delicious recipes crafted with only the best ingredients and wine makes this demonstration one that you certainly don’t want to miss! You will also be able to purchase All Day Baking on the day.

Please do note that due to the continuous presence of COVID-19, numbers will have to coincide with the current restriction guidelines. However, we will also be live-streaming the event via Instagram so that you can attend virtually as well.
